Speaker Logistics
We were able to secure extra funding: $500 from Dean’s Office of the Division of Arts and Humanities; and $576 from the Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Combined with the remaining funds in our Collective budget as well as our GSA DPC funds, we have enough now to cover a sizable honorarium ($500) and cover lunch and dinner for grad students on Thursday. We should have enough to set some money aside for a GSA-sponsored social at the end of the quarter.

Dr. Goldstein arrives in SD 4/16 (Wed) at 11:55 am : Maki will pick up at the airport
Wednesday --> free day to enjoy San Diego
Since we have extra money, he will be staying at the La Jolla Shores Hotel

Friday

TAship Issues
Proposed a Town Hall Meeting on Week 4 to address the issues with MMW and departmental TAships

MMW - 33% funding for fall quarter rather than 50%
Questions have come up over whether the history department going to cover the difference for students who are applying for MMW for next year? Or are we encouraged to apply elsewhere?

TAing in the Department
transparency and availability

Applying outside the department - ask Mayra/Head TA to schedule a workshop to address questions of first year students about the application process for TAships outside of the department (interview process, writing sample, etc.)
Deadline for applying is May 1

Miscellaneous
Nick suggested having an orientation for incoming students at the beginning of next year to fill them in on issues they have to deal with later on from the perspective of graduate students (ex. TAships outside of the department)
History colloquium or “book club”?

If time later in the quarter, it would also be helpful to have a workshop on writing grants for history students. Not necessarily focused on finding funding but rather how to execute a successful grant.
